Her other work has been published in numerous journals and anthologies, including Chicago Quarterly Review, Booth, McNeese Review, Catamaran, Kansas City Voices, Amethyst, Literary Mama, The Madrona Project, Mainstreet Rag, Raven Chronicles, and others. Additionally, in the Northwind Writing Award, sponsored by Raw Earth Ink, her poems, “Goat in the Corner” and “Bywater Bay” were awarded honorable mentions.”
Deborrah grew up in the Yamhill valley of Oregon. Her summers were spent picking fruit on local farms. She was the youngest of twelve children, and on the death of her father, she and her mother re-located to southeast Portland, where she attended high school.
At the University of Washington, she completed her BA degree in drama, and later did more academic work through Pacific Oaks College to achieve a teaching certificate and a master’s in human development. During that time she raised two children. After thirty years of teaching kindergarten, she retired.
Writing has been a constant throughout her life and, on retirement, Deborrah has devoted her time to the joy and craft of poetry. Through Seattle’s Hugo House and on-line, she has worked with many teachers, including Judith Roche, Kim Stafford, Ellen Bass, Jamaica Baldwin, Keetje Kuypers, Elizabeth Austen, Bill Carty and several others. She treasures the writing and poetry groups with whom she meets on an on-going basis.
Deborrah lives in south Seattle with her husband where they garden, watch birds, and gratefully enjoy each other’s company.
